PINES BARRON

Located in the Pine Barron region of Long Island NY, this home was designed as a nature retreat for a family of city dwellers. The siting of the home was chosen to be in a natural meadow, which limited the need for tree removal and maximized natural light. This modestly-sized home sits low to the ground in to avoid overpowering the majesty of the surrounding pine forests. The natural fauna is encourage to grow tight to the structure, increasing the occupants’ feeling of being immersed in nature.

The house is organized into three separate volumes (sleeping, living, guest suite) which are connected by a floating hip roof. A recreation zone, consisting of the pool patio and lawn, cuts through the house. This not only joins the front and back of the house, but also creates a sheltered outdoor space and provides privacy separation for the guest suite.
